Scheme gives students ambition

Scheme gives students ambition

Posted: 20th July 2018

A scheme to give students ambition and a love of achieving has celebrated its latest graduates.

The Gradu8 scheme, launched last year, is aimed at Year 8 students at Epping St John’s Church of England School.

Points are gathered throughout the year for hitting and exceeding targets in lessons, attendance, attitude to learning and extra-curricular activities attended.

The number of credits achieved by the end of the year determine whether students graduate with first class, upper second, lower second or third-class honours.

Eposi Ewome, director of learning, said: “In Year 7, students arrive ambitious and keen to challenge themselves. Gradu8 ensure that passion continues into Year 8 and gives students a sense of direction. They want to have targets and by setting a challenge they focus their energy on that, which also has a positive impact on behaviour.

“At the end of the year, everyone earns a certificate with their grading on it. It shows them that if they can achieve honours in Year 8, they can go on to do the same at university.”

A Gradu8 party, with bouncy castle, ice cream and entertainment, enabled students to further celebrate their achievements with their parents.

Students earning top points are rewarded with vouchers.
