Careers and Post 16

At Epping St John’s we strongly believe in planning ahead for our students’ futures.

Starting as early as Year 8 we encourage students to consider their strengths and the skills they have through Citizenship lessons. These lessons prepare them for looking at post 14 options and careers.

During their KS4 years students will work towards a certificate in Employability for Life during Post 16 Focus Days. They will learn to produce CVs and letters of application, will gain experience in interview techniques and be guided in how to make applications to college, sixth forms, apprenticeship schemes or jobs.  They will also have the opportunity to meet with employers and Post 16 providers.

We aim to help all students thoroughly investigate career opportunities through a range of educational experiences and we ensure that all students are given as much information and support as possible in order for them to make informed choices about their KS4 Options and Post-16 Pathways.

All students have access to college taster days and road shows, inspirational talks, assemblies, apprenticeship workshops plus much more.  In Years 10 and 11 we arrange for mock interviews and  “one to one” Career interviews.

Our Careers Education and Guidance at Epping St John’s aims to prepare all students for their adult and working life by contributing to the development of the fully rounded individual. We firmly believe that students should always be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge of themselves and be able to utilise all the opportunities open to them.

We have an excellent record of ensuring that our students secure Post 16 education places, resulting in the school having had no NEETs (Not in Employment, Education or Training) for the past few years.

Careers Guidance and information can be found in the Learning Resources Centre. Mrs Madden our Careers Manager is on hand to assist the students from 8.30 am to 3.00 pm daily.
