Year 6 / 7 Transition

A well-thought out, thorough and considered transition process is very important to us at Epping St John’s. We want our new students to feel like they are part of the ESJ community even before they formally join us and transition fortnight is a huge part of ensuring that happens.

Transition days are set as early as January and we ensure that all of our feeder Primary schools are well aware of the ESJ Transition Calendar. We visit our Primary schools from March of the previous academic year and these visits ensure that our new students start to identify key members of staff that will support the transition process.

Induction Evening is always incredibly well attended and this is our opportunity as a school to formally welcome our new students and their parents/carers. Families hear from our Headteacher, members of the Senior Team, the Director of Learning for Year 7 and some of our current students.

Our new students are placed into tutor groups and allocated a Form Tutor who is responsible for closely monitoring their academic and personal progress, setting targets and coaching them so that they feel settled, happy and committed to their learning. Year 7 are overseen by Mrs Dennison; an outstanding pastoral leader who will ensure that their year is as successful as possible.
